    Note: The Cemetery is located in Delta County.  It is included hereas most of the people buried here were residents of the Maher area which is located in Montrose County.  The location is one mile south of Crawford on Highway 92 on a bluff overlooking the northeast side of the Crawford Reservoir.  The abandoned cemetery is on private property with no access.

 

McINTIRE: Duncan – Oct 22, 1806 – Died Sept 14, 1884.

                       Elizabeth – Born Feb 11, 1816.  Died Feb 16, 1887.

               Pompous Marble to thy name

               Parental fondness did thy lives attest.

 

Murilla McNEIL – Died Jan 12, 1889, Aged 10 months, 25 days.  Daughter of Fannie and Albert McNEIL.

 

Fannie E. McNEIL – Died April 23, 1893, Aged 24 years 7 months, 26 days.  Wife of Albert McNEIL and daughter of Adeline and Ezra COLLINS.  Died in childbirth.

 

Adeline (CARICO) COLLINS – Wife of E.N. COLLINS.  Born 1846.  Died Dec 23, 1888, Aged 42 years 3 days.  “She was a kind and affectionate wife, mother, and a friend to all”.   Her husband, Ezra NUCKOLLS COLLINS – Born 9 Feb 1838.  Died March 25, 1911, and bur in Phoenix, Arizona.  He was the son of Elijah and Margy COLLINS.

 

An article in the HERALD-CHRONICLE, 23 December 1976 lists two more burials in this cemetery.

 

Albert Rose MAHER – 1884-1899.  He was the son of Caleb MAHER, brothe of Walter MAHER, uncle of Clarence DREXEL, and Mrs. Howard (Leone) DEN BESTE.

 

John LEMON – No other information.

 

 

    There are two known graves in the Black Canyon:

 

Harry HUTCHINSON – No other information.

 

An unknown fisherman who drowned while fishing below Sapinero,
